JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) — Authorities have identified a man shot in an armed confrontation with Jamestown police.

Jamestown Police Chief David Donegan told Jamestown radio station KSJB that 27-year-old Michael Parlow was shot after he pointed a shotgun at officers. Parlow was taken to a Jamestown hospital and then transferred to Fargo. There was no report on Parlow's condition.

Donegan said officers were called to a residence at 2:12 a.m. Sunday after someone reported an armed man was threatening suicide.

Three officers were standing in front of an apartment building when the man came out, put a shell in a shotgun and pointed the weapon at officers. The officers fired on the man, striking him several times.

"They told him to drop it and he pointed it at them," Donegan told the Jamestown Sun newspaper.

The three officers, who were not identified, have been placed on administrative leave. They weren't injured.

"While the investigation is going on, it's routine to put officers who have fired their weapon on administrative leave," Donegan said. "It's a stressful thing to happen. They need time to adjust and get assistance if they need it."
