Cost of a case of beer to increaseFargo, ND (WDAY TV) - You're "night life" is getting a little more expensive. A major beer distributor is raising its prices and liquor stores in town will be forced to raise prices along with it. To add to it, liquor store owners expect all domestic beer companies to follow suit.
Owner of the bottle barn liquor stores in Fargo Joel Wold says the beer company's raise prices every fall.
"Last year our cost went up, but we did not raise our prices however it did affect our sale prices we were not able to go quite as low."
But this year Anheuser-Busch has pushed it so high prices on all Budweiser products will be up 1 dollar a case. And the Busch 30 packs are going up 2 dollars a case.
"They're going to be the same price as the other premium beers; however it is a thirty pack so you get more for your money."
Wold says he's not worried about losing business, he says people will still buy beer. They might just choose a cheaper brand. Since Anheuser-Busch was first, you can expect all domestics to soon go up as well.
"They will follow suit eventually. We just haven't heard when or how much it will be. I'm guessing it will be the same amount though."
Customers we talked to about the price increase say a dollar per case is a little steep, they say if the beer companies are going to keep raising the price every year they should do it more modestly.
"I guess it's the way it goes. I'm not going to stop but maybe just a little less I don't know."
"Especially now that the economy is bad it's going to slow down people."
To absorb the hit himself Wold stocked up the store before prices went up. The price increase will start next week.
