Code Red to be first formal warning system in Oakport

Oakport Township, Minn. (WDAY TV) - A new weather alert system in Clay County is a huge development for Oakport.

By: WDAY Staff Reports, WDAY

It can't afford the roughly 30-thousand dollar tornado sirens larger cities like Moorhead have, so code red will be its first formal warning system for storms.

Code Red will send 3-types of warnings automatically: either tornado, severe thunderstorm or flash flood warnings.

ā€œPeople have always wanted sirens up here always wondered how to get the alerts. Since we're so spread out, so rural, it just isn't affordable for us to do that. In essence, the cost will go back to the people who need it. This way, they can get a better service at no charge.ā€

To sign up, go to Clay County's website at or call 218-299-5151. If you miss the call, you can call back and hear the alert.
