Hockey Arena: Voters to decide on a half-cent sales tax

Fergus Falls, Minn. (WDAY TV) - People in Fergus Falls will vote for a 4th time on a proposed new hockey arena.

As we told you, bids for the arena came in 3-million dollars over budget. It's almost 9-million. A group of people has been trying to get the city council to approve a referendum. That would use an additional sales tax to pay for part of the project.

The city is split on the issue. Some people want it be built, but others want to forget about the plans all together.

In the November election, voters will be given the chance to decide whether to approve a half-cent sales tax to help pay for the arena's construction.

If they vote against the sales tax increase, they could face higher property taxes in the future.
