Clay County: Levy increase of 4.45 percent

(WDAY TV) - Clay County property tax payers can expect to pay more in 2011 with a levy increase of almost 4-and-a-half percent.

County expenditures increased by one percent. The other 3.45 percent comes from a 780-thousand dollar reduction in county government aid from the state, since last year.

For a 200,000 dollar home, it'll feel like a 450 dollar increase, taking into account new construction. The county will also wait to fill 2 sheriff's deputy, 2 social services and 2 part time assistant county attorney positions, in case there are more cuts in the coming legislative session.

“One way to deal with it is to cut back in services; the other idea might be to pass some of that on to property tax payers.”

The county board has spoken out against any additional tax increases. There are 6 additional positions the county has not filled and did not budget to fill.
