Oakport Township making progress with flood protection

Oakport Township, Minn. (WDAY TV) - The most difficult area to dike during a flood in Oakport is getting protection.

The town has received the final permit needed to start work on re-aligning a coulee and building another half to three-quarters of a mile of dike here.

There's been a lot of progress already. 2-thousand feet of the south leg of the dike is constructed, and another 2-thousand feet is underway.

“It says we have the last piece of the puzzle in place to get the dikes in place this fall so we're ready for whatever nature throws at us next year.”

Anderson says everything should be done by fall except one mile of diking along Broadway or County Road One, which was saved for last because it's easiest to protect during a flood.
