Code Red weather alerts system up and running
(WDAY TV) - People in Clay County will now be up on any severe weather heading their way. The Weather Warning alerts that are part of the Code Red system are now up and running.By: WDAY Staff Reports, WDAY
The "opt-in" program will now send 3-types of warnings automatically: either tornado, severe thunderstorm or flash flood warnings. You must sign up for the new notifications, even if you're already signed up for the Code Red emergency notifications in Clay County.
"It's just another tool in our tool box, basically is what it is. We have the sirens, we have the regular Code Red and again that takes a little bit of time, but this here is going to be instantaneously. So as the National Weather Service sends that alert that goes directly to the phones."
To sign up, you can go online to Clay County's website at http://co.clay.mn.us or call the Clay County sheriff's office at 218-299-5151.
If you miss the call, you can call back and hear the severe weather alert.
