Meeting on Bismarck train horn project postponed

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A meeting about a project to silence train horns at a Bismarck railroad crossing has been postponed to give the city and railroad more time to reach an agreement.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A meeting about a project to silence train horns at a Bismarck railroad crossing has been postponed to give the city and railroad more time to reach an agreement.

Officials with the National Guard, the city and BNSF Railway met at the site near the Guard's state headquarters in west Bismarck recently to evaluate some of the project's details. Railroad lawyer Stephen Plambeck says some legal questions need to be answered.

The Public Service Commission had scheduled an informal meeting on the project this week. PSC Chairman Kevin Cramer says the commission will schedule another meeting in about two weeks.

Passing trains won't need to blow their horns at the crossing if new fencing and other safety features are installed. But the project has gotten stalled on final details.
