Deputy Dewey's wife Emily was joined by hundreds of people who packed the Mahnomen gymnasium. It was a memorial service and Emily asked for it to be uplifting.
"It is because this should be celebrated."
Emily says it gets easier everyday and her faith has gotten her to this point, but she says all of the attention that's come with her husband's battle and death has made things hard for her.
"It’s tough to go through this in a spotlight."
Adding to a positive message Emily was reminded by peace officers that's she will always be apart of their family.
"It takes a lot too put on the uniform, takes even more to be married to that person."
Chris will be remembered for a lot of things, a husband, an outdoorsman, a good man with a sense of humor, and of course a peace officer. All of that was tied together to remember Chris tonight, and ended with Emily sending a personal message.
"Releasing the dove was touching."
The service lasted about 45 minutes. Emily says they wanted to give everyone a chance to say goodbye to Deputy Dewey.
