FARGO, N.D. (AP) — Five miles of roads in Fargo-Moorhead are being closed Sunday because of an inaugural event encouraging physical activity and a healthy lifestyle.

The Streets Alive event will replace motor vehicle traffic with various forms of human-powered transportation.

Organizer Rory Beil says that includes everything from walking to skateboarding to propelling a wheelchair.

The director of the Cass-Clay Healthy People Initiative says the idea comes from Bogota, Colombia, where more than 70 miles of roads are closed every Sunday of the year. He says a similar event in Madison, Wis., last year attracted about 10,000 people.
