AUSTIN, Minn. (AP) — A southeastern Minnesota mayor burned his leg after his sports utility vehicle caught fire with him in it.
Austin Mayor Tom Stiehm was traveling on Highway 218 north of Blooming Prairie Wednesday morning when he saw fire in a hole in the floor.
He told the Austin Daily Herald he poured coffee on it and thought it went out. So he tried to make it to Blooming Prairie, but flames began shooting up from the floor board of the driver's area.
Stiehm then grabbed his things and his three dogs and watched his vehicle go up in flames from the road.
He says the fire blocked off traffic for about 45 minutes.
Stiehm's leg has blisters but he did not seek medical attention.
The fire's cause is unknown.
