MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Minot's Planning Commission has approved an oil field company's request to store explosives in the southeast part of the city despite continued protest by neighboring landowners.

The City Council still must approve the permit for E&P Wireline Services of Midland, Texas. If that happens, the site outside city limits would be annexed to receive city water.

The Minot Fire Department earlier gave its approval, citing a minor explosive hazard and the safety precautions proposed.

Neighbors have several concerns, including security, training of employees and the potential loss of road access into the area if an emergency forced a road closure.
