Minn. man shoots at bat, damages next-door home

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (AP) — Prosecutors say a Maplewood man chose an unusual way to attack a bat that had gotten into his home.

MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (AP) — Prosecutors say a Maplewood man chose an unusual way to attack a bat that had gotten into his home.

Authorities say 52-year-old Cedric R. Newton took out his .38-caliber revolver and fired several times, wounding the bat and leaving three bullet holes in an adjoining vacant town house. There were also dents in the town house's stove and a metal closet door.

The Star Tribune says Newton was charged Friday with reckless discharge of a firearm.

Newton told investigators the bat came into his home last month and attacked his wife. The criminal complaint says Newton had the presence of mind to send his wife upstairs while he shot at the bat, but he apparently failed to consider the surrounding homes.

A telephone call to Newton's home Tuesday rang unanswered.
