GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The largest health care provider in the Grand Forks region is starting a random drug and alcohol testing policy for all employees.

Altru Health System says it will implement the policy Sept. 1. It will cover about 4,000 workers, including nearly 200 physicians.

Altru Chief Executive Officer Dave Molmen says chemical dependency among health care workers is a serious national issue. He says a random testing process will help reassure patients that Altru offers a safe environment.
