Favre hype paying off for area sports shops

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It's finally official, Brett Favre will be returning for a second season with the Vikings, but is the anticipation of Favre's second season still as high as last year?

12-year old Reese Renger is spending the day with grandma on vacation from Michigan and taking time for some shopping. He may not be from around here, but he loves the Minnesota Vikings, but as for Brett Favre and his hem-hawing around again this season...

“I think that he needs to make his decisions and stop loafing so much.”

Reese is excited for Favre's return, but wished the news came sooner instead of later.

“Don't wait until right in the middle of the pre-season, he's not going to have too much time to warm up. He's got three more games left before the season starts so he better get in shape quick.”

Evan Dewald jumped on the Vikings bandwagon last year when Favre showed up. He's on board again this year.

“This year, I told myself if he came back, I would get his jersey. So that's why I'm here.”

Dewald says Favre could have taken as much time as he needed because in his opinion, he's an asset to the team.

“Quarterback is the number one position and without a quarterback, you won't get too far in the playoffs.”

Hype like this is paying off for sports shops like Scheels. Customers still seem to be hooked and are dropping money for Favre apparel.

“We'll have a great conversation; it's a great conversation starter, just something to talk about. The anticipation for the season's as high as it's ever been.”

Excitement that's sure to keep building until the regular season starts September 9th. Distributors for Scheels held off on making extra Favre jerseys, just in case he decided to retire again.
