MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) — Up to 2,000 law enforcement officers are expected to pay tribute to Mahnomen County Deputy Christopher Dewey when he's buried Wednesday.

The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead reports that it's tradition for officers to turn out for the funerals colleagues who are killed in the line of duty.

Mahnomen County Sheriff Doug Krier says all 20 members of his force, dispatchers included, will make the trip down for the service in Brooklyn Park.

Officers and support staff from the White Earth Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol and sheriff offices in Clearwater, Becker, Hennepin and Otter Tail counties will fill in.

Dewey was shot in the head and stomach in February 2009 while checking out a report of shots fired in a Mahnomen neighborhood. He never fully recovered and died Aug. 9.
