The Halstad Telephone Company got the Broadband Stimulus Grant for 4.5 million dollars. It will allow fiber-optic cable for homes and businesses.
Crews will put down 280 miles of cable during two phases. The first one is in Hillsboro. The second at rural properties including some on the Minnesota side of the Red River. This service is free to taxpayers.
Beth Christianson-Melby/HTC Rep.: "All the plowing that’s happening and bringing the cable to everyone is free. No one will need to pay for that, it is included in the grant money. The Broadband stimulus funds, but for services of course everyone needs to pay for those. "
The project could be done within three weeks.
