RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - The National Weather Service believes a microburst was the cause of extensive weather damage in western South Dakota over the weekend.
A microburst is a sudden and powerful rush of air toward the ground. Power poles were downed, homes were damaged, 1,500-pound hay bales were tossed around and a 60-foot concrete farm silo was flattened in the Rapid City region Saturday.
No one was injured, but silo owner Steve Jensen says it was a scary experience.
