6th annual motorcycle ride benefits the Lisbon Headstart programLisbon, ND (WDAY TV) - For hundreds of people in Lisbon, nice weather called for a ride on their motorcycles. The ride, along with a little destruction, helped out a local program.
Riders paid their way to ride in the 6th annual Headstart Run, which is headed by the Liqr Pigz Motorcycle Club, don't let the name scare you off.
Al Stulz: "It started out with kind of a shyness to the name and really questioning with it, but after the first couple years of fund raisers and benefits and the things we've done and the money we've raised its kind of a household name."
But it’s not just a pay to ride, it’s betting on the side for destruction that brings people in. For 2 bucks you could bet on the time it took for this old beater to quit after constant pedal to the metal.
Al Stulz: "Let the engine scream and it runs out of fuel of the engine actually blows up and quits and the closest time without going over wins half the money raised in that part of the contest."
As if that wasn’t good enough, they crushed it. And in the past five years of the motorcycle run and the car crushing the Liqr Pigs have raised 15-thousand dollars for the Lisbon Headstart.
Stacey Jorgenson: "Because of them, we've been able to get new things and update a lot of our things in our classrooms. They do such great things, not even just for us, for the whole community."
It’s not just any old bike run, Mike Bestler, who has family in the area rode from rural Chicago just to witness the excitement.
Mike Bestler: "I had the time, and I had the bike to do it and I decided that this was the year I was going to do it."
Proof that a little destruction and a few miles on the bike can go a long way. More than 130-riders took part. The night ends with music at the Cattleman's Club in Lisbon.
