ND State Fair parade to beef up rules

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Organizers of the annual North Dakota State Fair parade are looking into beefing up rules after two children were run over by floats and injured this year.

A 7-year-old girl suffered a broken pelvis and a 5-year-old boy suffered a less serious leg injury. Authorities say both fell from floats on July 24 and were run over.

State Fair Parade Chairman Jim Clifford says organizers met for two hours following the July 24 parade to talk about what to do.

He says parade rules such as no throwing of candy from vehicles generally are ignored, and officials next year will find a way to deal with the problem. He says one idea is to kick rule-breakers out of the parade.
