Waubun, Minn. (WDAY TV) - An area Minnesota school is getting a $1.4 million dollar grant from the state for a major overhaul.

Waubun was deemed in need of a makeover, mostly based on low standardized test scores. 19 other Minnesota schools also got the improvement grants.

Waubun was picked for the money as part of a federal effort to turn around underperforming schools. The money will add an hour of instructional time to the school day and include more professional development for teachers.

Two people will also be hired to oversee the turnaround process and the district also plans to hire a new math teacher to help reduce class sizes.
