ND corrections officer thinks firing was political

ROLLA, N.D. (AP) — A corrections officer with the Rolette County Sheriff's Department believes he was unjustly fired because he is campaigning against his superior.

ROLLA, N.D. (AP) — A corrections officer with the Rolette County Sheriff's Department believes he was unjustly fired because he is campaigning against his superior.

Twenty-seven-year-old Brandon Mathiason was fired by Interim Sheriff Melvin Frank on July 21, the day after Mathiason filed to run for sheriff.

Frank says Mathiason "wasn't working out." He did not offer specific examples but said the firing was not related to the sheriff's race.

Mathiason says he did nothing wrong in his job duties that would merit termination and he believes he was fired because he's running against Frank for sheriff. He has filed an appeal with the County Commission.
