VIDEO: Worker rescues woman, children from Minn. pond
RICHFIELD, Minn. (AP) — A state highway first responder came to the rescue of a Twin Cities woman and her two children when their car went off a highway and began sinking in a holding pond.
It happened Wednesday afternoon along southbound Interstate 35W in Richfield.
A spokesman for the Minnesota Department of Transportation says the responder, Don Machacek, was sent to the interchange and found most of the car in the pond "nose-first and sinking."
Machacek opened a rear passenger door and got the three out safely.
The driver, from Hugo, says she misjudged the location of her exit as she turned to the right.
The rescue was captured on tape by a traffic management camera. The woman and her children, ages 8 and 10, are OK.
