ND education panel studying data project

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The chairman of North Dakota's education improvement commission says a new data project will help track how well students do in school and the workplace.

Lt. Gov. Jack Dalrymple says one of the project's hurdles has been finding a way to follow students' progress when they leave high school and go to college. He says the problem is being resolved.

Dalrymple says state officials don't have data about how well North Dakota high school students do in college and in their jobs after they graduate. The "longitudinal data system" that's being developed will help supply that information.

Job Service North Dakota director Maren Daly says the information can also help gauge the success of state job training programs.
