Competition, weather cause lower fair attendance

West Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Severe weather and other local fairs lead to fewer people going to the Red River Valley Fair this year.

The Downtown Street Fair, Clay County and Wilkin County Fair were all going on at the same time. Fair officials say they don't have an exact number yet, but estimate about 115-thousand people came.

That's about 10-thousand fewer than last year. Another factor was the bad weather during a big act.

"We had two nights of Redhawks, then we had Rick Springfield over at the Hub, but we had a lot of competition this year. But I think overall we did very well. We'll know more here in the next week as far as financially how we came out on it."

Schulz believes they would've had more than the 45-hundred in the grandstand on Saturday if the severe weather hadn't come through.
