(WDAY TV) - Clay County is looking at increasing property taxes in their 2011 budget. The proposal sets the county's tax levy at $24-million dollars which is 3.4 percent higher than the current levy.
However, with new housing and commercial construction expected to boost the tax base by 2-percent, it translates to a 1.4-percent tax increase for property owners.
Clay County is bracing for a nearly $672-thousand dollar reduction in state aid from their estimated $3.7 million dollars. While the budget doesn't call for layoffs, county officials say that could change depending on what happens at the state level.
