Grand Forks, ND, unveiling hybrid buses

GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Grand Forks will soon be putting four new buses on the road, including two hybrid buses that run on electricity and diesel fuel.

Public Transportation Superintendent Dale Bergman says Grand Forks is the first city in the state to get the hybrids, which cost $550,000 apiece. They arrived last weekend from a plant in Crookston, Minn., along with two new diesel buses that cost $325,000 apiece.

Grand Forks used federal stimulus money and public transportation grants to pay for the buses. The city's share of the cost is about $116,000.

City officials believe they'll recoup that through greater fuel efficiency and lower maintenance costs.
