Alcohol, no belts cited in fatal crash

ST. JAMES, Minn. (AP) — The State Patrol says alcohol and a lack of seat belts contributed to the deaths of four young men in a weekend car crash car in southern Minnesota.

A fifth person in the car, a 22-year-old female, was critically injured.

The patrol says a car driven by 24-year-old Terrance John Tierney of Fairmont ran into a semi at an intersection near the community of Welcome. Troopers say an open bottle of alcohol was found in the car and none of the five were wearing seat belts.

Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske says he wonders when the dangers of drinking and driving, and driving without seat belts will ever be realized by some young people.

Besides Tierney, those killed in the crash include 24-year-old Joshua Robert Adams, 21-year-old Luis Alberto Martinez and 23-year-old Jose Teodor Cardoza, all of St. James.
