MADISON, S.D. (AP) - Authorities have identified a Madison woman killed when a boat broke free from a pickup truck that was hauling it and hit the truck she was riding in.

Forty-six-year-old Rebecca Hopf died after the crash Sunday afternoon on U.S. Highway 81 north of Madison. The driver of the truck she was in, 50-year-old Roger Hopf, suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the pickup that was towing the boat, 46-year-old Michael Nelson of Lake Preston, was cited for a safety chain violation. The misdemeanor carries a $117 fine. The patrol says officials are still investigating what caused the boat to break free.
