(WDAY Sports) - We head to the track now for the U.S. Track Championships. Perham native and University of Minnesota runner Gabrielle Anderson, running in the 1500 and looking strong in the early going.
Anderson finished 8th in the prelims, but she would set the pace for the first three laps of this race. Unfortunately, Anderson wouldn't be able to keep it up. As she fades down the stretch and finishes in 7th place, almost 4 seconds behind the winner, Anna Pierce.
Taking a look at some other local athletes at the U.S. Track Championships, you see Anderson's final time.
West Fargo's Ellie Grooters finished 5th in the junior women's 400 meter hurdles with a time of just over one minute. NDSU's Toni Tollefson "no heighted" in the women’s high jump.
In the women's long jump, it was NDSU's Whitney Carlson finishing ninth and setting a new school record with a distance of twenty-feet, two and a half inches.
And in the heptathlon it was NDSU's Heather Zander finishing 13th with 5,357 points.
