200 five and six-year olds participated in safety town, a 2-week camp that teaches them safety lessons to help them at home and when they start school in the fall.

Kids are shown what to do in a fire and introduced to firefighters and policemen, so they know they are there to help. Kids also learn about bike safety, traffic signs and signals and the dangers of railroad tracks.

“It shows the kids they have control over situations they might normally have.”

Kids also learn how pills that look like candy and some liquids can be poisonous. Safety town is put on by the Optimist Club.
