Truckload of food is given away to help with hard timesPelican Rapids, Minn. (WDAY TV) - To help in hard times, several Ottertail County organizations pooled together money to buy a truckload of food and they gave it away to anyone that eats. The need was so great the two hour giveaway was cut short.
The line was long, so were the smiles. As families go home with bags and boxes of free food, no eligibility requirements or strings attached, prompted simply by some giving organizations willing to pay for it.
The giveaway was so popular that only 25 minutes into it, 46 households were served, and supply was low. The local food shelf brought over 12 cases of its inventory to restock as more families filtered in. Today the community didn't have to go to the food shelf, the food came to them.
It was an afternoon raising awareness and happiness. Otter Tail-Wadena Community Action Council, Unitarian Church of Underwood, Perham food shelf, Calvary Lutheran of Perham and the North Country Food Bank paid for the truckload of food. It was distributed in Pelican Rapids, Underwood, and Perham.
