Damage assessment requested for last week's tornados
Mentor, Minn. (WDAY TV) - How much damage did last week's deadly tornados cause in Minnesota? That's what officials with the Federal Emergency Management Agency are trying to figure out this week.By: WDAY Staff Reports, WDAY
Today they were in Polk County looking at damage to homes, businesses, and parks. Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty requested the damage assessments to see if the state should request a disaster declaration.
If the declaration is approved, people with damage could get federal financial help.
“Like typical tornado events, you have one place completely destroyed and another one a few feet away that doesn't have much damage at all.”
FEMA officials are also looking at the tornado damage in several other Minnesota counties including Steele, Olmstead, and Otter Tail.
