With no outlet, Boyer Lake has gone up and out, flooding Highway Ten in the summer the last couple of years.
Efforts to raise the highway were not enough. Now the Buffalo-Red River Watershed District has hired crews to begin pumping water to lower Boyer Lake. Work is expected to begin by week's end.
This should prevent flooding and lane closures on Highway 10. Nearby LaBelle lake has already fallen because of a pumping plan.
