Camera system to be expanded at the Moorhead Public Library after recent incidents

Moorhead, Minn. (WDAY TV) - Security is tightening at the Moorhead Public Library.

Security cameras were installed in 2002, but the city manger says recent incidents of theft, vandalism and inappropriate behavior in areas where there are no cameras indicate the system should be expanded.

It'll be paid for with 9-thousand dollars leftover from library carpet replacement, and 28-hundred dollars from a city equipment account, all within the Capital Improvement Fund.

Each day, 12 to 15-hundred people visit the library.

“This is a public place and with any public place, there are people doing inappropriate things occasionally or vandalism. It's just a given with our society, unfortunately.”

The police department will continue to have remote access to the system.
