Officers in southwest ND shoot, kill man
BELFIELD, N.D. (AP) — Authorities have identified a Belfield man shot and killed after he allegedly pointed a gun at law officers following a car chase.
Stark County Sheriff Clarence Tuhy (TOO'-ee) says officers from the sheriff's department, Highway Patrol and Belfield Police Department fired at 55-year-old Keith Newton.
Tuhy says the Tuesday afternoon incident began when officers responded to a residence north of Belfield after 53-year-old Tim Weiss (wys) was shot in the top of the head. They tried to stop a vehicle that was leaving, and a pursuit ensued. It ended at a warehouse near Belfield, where Newton was killed.
Weiss was treated at a hospital and released.
The state crime bureau is looking into the matter. Tuhy says the officers involved are on administrative leave.
