Local radio station holds a gas giveawayFargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Early this morning, local radio station Rock 102 had a gas give away worth thousands of dollars. 10 gallons free for the first 102 cars to pull up. You might be surprised by the tactical planning some listeners went through to be first in line.
They popped open 102 gas tanks and pumped enough fuel to run up a 2,600 dollar tab. Most people coming through knew the gas give away was happening today at 7:30, but the station wouldn't release where it was happening until 10 minutes before the event started.
"I went and I brought him to the hub where his car was and we waited in the parking lot for them to tell us. Then we raced over here all skipping through traffic."
Others wanted to make sure they were already on the move. They basically drove around the center of Fargo, saying it put them as close as possible to which ever gas station was called out.
"Exactly, when they say where they're going to be, you kind of want to get there so you get in line and get your free stuff."
Not a bad deal for drivers. You got free gas and full service, but with long lines and only two pumps going, getting to work on time could be a challenge.
“It is about an hour to an hour and a half because it is a 20 minute drive. He'll be cool, tell him it's free gas."
"I'll have to make a phone call here pretty soon and tell them what's going on."
Coordinators say these are their favorite days. They were broadcasting on scene, meeting their listeners, most of all helping people save some cash on gas. Especially the ones who are so low they need an extra push getting to the pump.
“Have a good day guys.”
The free gas event lasted about 2 hours
