Residents near page deal with flooding, washed out road after last week's rain

Page, ND (WDAY TV) - A farmer living west of Page is still battling hundreds of acres of fields covered in rain water from last week's storm. This comes after he had to sandbag his house to fight overland rain waters.

500 acres of Greg Satrom's land is either wet or fully under water. Satrom and his brother are trying to plant beans and sunflowers. He says the saturated or fully wet ground will slow them down significantly. He says it's like starting over.

"It just got perfect again, and now we're going around this all over again. So it's not good."

Satrom says it could be a week or more before the field water dries up. Just south of there, Cass County highway crews are expecting to repair an 80 foot stretch of washed out county road next week.

County Highway 1 west of Page had damage in four spots. The major one: this huge 10-foot deep wash-out in the middle of the road. Crews will have to refill the hole with clay and sand to fix it. It should take a few days to fix. This area is a major funnel for Maple River drainage.

"We're just going to let it dry here and hopefully we won't get more rain here later this week like they're predicting and we'll get going on it as soon as we can to get things back open to traffic."

This is the third time in two years this spot has had to be repaired.
