Moorhead, Minn. (WDAY TV) - A Moorhead man who allegedly crashed his car into a pickup and mailbox on Monday says he was being bitten by a tarantula at the time.

27-year-old Lee Solarski was driving on 18th Street North in Fargo Monday evening when he lost control of his car, hitting the pickup and mailbox. Solarski drove away, but witnesses got his license plate numbers and police were able to track him down.

He says his passenger had a tarantula in the car at the time. Police didn't find the spider during their investigation and say it's unclear if Solarski was actually bitten. Damages are estimated at $8-thousand dollars.

Solarski has been in trouble with the law before. In 2005 he plead guilty to aiding another man in the 2004 ax murder of David Hinojosa, Junior on a gravel road near Glyndon.
