Two of the greatest ND prep track runners race for a final time

(WDAY Sports) - Records were broken and champions were crowned at this year's state track and field meet in Bismarck. Our own Trevor Peterson was there and he recaps some of the day’s biggest events.

The final day of this year's meet marked the culmination of two of the greatest prep track careers in North Dakota history as West Fargo's Ellie Grooters and South's Laura Roesler ran for the final time.

Grooters began the day by setting a class A state record in winning the 300 hurdles in a time of 42.51. She also won the 100 hurdles. It's the 4th straight year Grooters won both hurdle races. She finished her career with 11 total state titles.

“Looking back, I never would've thought I would've dominated those events like I have. It's weird to think about four straight years of winning, hard to think about.

Lisbon's Hillary Birchem has won the B girls discus two straight years, after besting the field with a toss of 122.11.
