ND town of Michigan fixes water problem

MICHIGAN, N.D. (AP) - Officials in the northeast North Dakota town of Michigan have fixed a problem that resulted in a week of water service disruptions.

Mayor Allen Orwick says the culprit was a bad valve in the sewer system that was exposed by heavy rainfall. The water woes began after the sewer lift station was inundated following more than 5 inches of rain during thunderstorms May 22 and May 24.

Officials had to shut off the city's water and the 300 residents had to do without for several days, getting only about an hour per evening of water service. Officials turned on the water for good Monday morning but work continued to fix the sewer problem.
