Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fargo Police are on a manhunt, playing a key role in an investigation into a brutal murder in a suburb of Chicago. The murder happened Wednesday afternoon in Villa Park Illinois. Police there found a woman who was 5 months pregnant stabbed to death at a friend's home after a domestic dispute. The couple's 3 year old daughter was also in the home, unharmed, and believed to have witnessed the murder. Police want to talk with the woman's husband Eric Gilford.

This morning, his car was found in downtown Fargo. A neighbor called to report this 2008 Dodge Charger which wasn't supposed to be in the parking lot off Main and 8th St. North. The car is registered to Gilford. Police also searched nearby dumpsters for any evidence.

“I mean a certain possibility is that he's trying to go somewhere else from here. We don't know that this is his final destination. He could be long gone from Fargo, but its our responsibility to assume he is still here.”

Gilford is described as a white male, 210-pounds, 6'4, brown hair, and brown eyes. Police are looking to question Gilford, if you have any information to his whereabouts you are urged to contact Fargo police at 701-235-4493.

The discovery of the vehicle leaves two big questions, why in Fargo and where is Gilford now. Police are now out in full force searching for Gilford. When Molly Punderson woke up this morning, she didn't expect it would be by a phone call.

Molly Punderson: "It was kind of a wake up call when they called and told me to move my car for police this morning."

The 2008 Charger was parked next to her vehicle in this parking lot. With the car in custody the other piece of the puzzle remains missing.

Molly Punderson: "Yeah, it makes me feel a little nervous."

Police scoured the streets, following leads and searching for Gilford. With a man on the run, authorities are urging you to be on the look out, but cautious if you see anyone or anything suspicious.

LT. Pat Claus: "If they think thye found this guy or if they know, if they picked him up hitchhiking or whatever, they need to distance themselves, find a phone get in contact with us or their local, closest law enforcement agency, so we can take this guy in to custody."

Police say its likely he fled to another city, but until he is captured their plan is to remain vigilant, taking calls and following leads out in the streets.

LT Pat Claus: "Is he here or is he gone, we don’t know. We just have to operate under the assumption that he is still here or that he left some indication of where he was going."

Police say there is no indication that Gilford is looking for a confrontation with the public and it seems he is just fleeing police, but with a heinous crime like this, police say it’s always safe to assume they are very dangerous.
