Board of Higher Education selects Dr. Dean BrescianiFargo, ND (WDAY TV) - NDSU has a new man in charge. In a unanimous vote, the Board of Higher Education made Dr. Dean Bresciani NDSU's next president.
It took the board less than an hour in a closed door session to decide on NDSU's next president.
DR. DEAN BRESCIANI/NEW NDSU PRESIDENT: "From the moment I first became aware of the opportunity. It's become more right in every conversation I've had with every individual. Everything I've researched and everything I've talked with people about, this is the fit and the job that I've been preparing for my entire career and I could not be more excited."
The Napa Valley native and former Texas A & M Vice President says he will re-establish and put a face on NDSU by being a "highly" visible leader.
DR. BRESCIANI: "We owe it to the people that we serve, to let them know that NDSU is being led by someone who cares about what we do for this state."
Board members say Bresciani's depth and breadth of experience, and true character are why he got the job.
JON BACKES/SBHE PRESIDENT ELECT: "Very direct and up front in his approach to things. He didn't speak higher ed speak, which occasionally we get in higher ed, and I think here in North Dakota we like to kind of get straight up here's what it is."
And being as up-front as possible and re-installing people's faith and trust in the university is Bresciani's key goal.
DR. BRESCIANI: "I think you show transparency, you don't talk about transparency. You don't try to talk through establishing trust and faith in the people you serve you demonstrate it to them, you walk to the walk you don't talk the talk."
Although his first official day isn't until June 15th, Bresciani says he wants to get started right away. Former president Joe Chapman resigned amid criticism of lavish spending habits.
