One of the neatest parts to this marathon is all of the spectators who came out and support these runners; some of them even manage to stick out while helping out. Deb Habendank is attending her first marathon.
"Usually there are so many people; we take off for the lake, but its different when you have a child running in it."
Deb's supporting her daughter. By the amount of support she's giving everyone, you'd think she has about 20 thousand offspring running in the race. The runners are noticing. If you stand close to Deb, you see about half the marathoners express some sort of gratitude.
"It's so fun. I think part of me is just being a coach and encouraging and to see everyone working so hard just to encourage them on."
Deb did have some competition for best in show. This group from Carl Ben Eielson had runners pulling off their headphones to hear some smooth motivational music.
"It's really great because I don't know, it's just like everybody is so happy. It's like the marathon vibe, it's awesome."
No matter what the tune, it's obvious the runners appreciate all the support.
"Just the smiles the people waving back to me. One stopped and gave me a piece of candy and said keep up the good work, to me!"
