Motorcycle benefit for injured Mahnomen Co. deputy

UNDERWOOD, Minn. (AP) — Dozens of bikers are expected to participate in a 140-mile motorcycle ride to raise money for an injured Mahnomen County sheriff's deputy.

Deputy Chris Dewey was shot in the head and abdomen in February 2009 while investigating a suspected drunken driver. He's recovering at a facility in North Branch.

He and his wife will move into her parents' house, but it needs to be remodeled for Dewey's special needs. So Jeff Mattson organized the motorcycle run to raise money for the house. He hopes at least 100 riders will participate.

The Daily Journal of Fergus Falls reports the ride starts at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Underwood American Legion. Stops are scheduled at the Powerhouse in Rothsay and the Pit Stop in Evansville, before returning to Underwood.
