ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A teacher has learned her punishment for biting off and apparently swallowing part of a man's ear at a St. Paul cafe last March.

Susan Mwarabu (war-AH'-boo) of Rochester was sentenced Thursday to serve 60 days, either on home monitoring or at the Ramsey County Workhouse. The rules of her five-year probation include no alcohol consumption.

The 31-year-old apologized profusely and tearfully in court for the incident at the Uptowner Cafe.

Christopher Hough had been eating with friends. Four women, including Mwarabu, who was drunk, were at another table. One of his friends commented about one of the women. Mwarabu ended up biting off part of Hough's ear. One witness saw her pick the piece of ear off the floor and put it in her mouth.

Mwarabu lost her job as a sixth-grade social studies teacher at Northfield Middle School after the incident.
