If passed, two lots near South 4th Street in downtown would be open to public planting. Garden plots for the summer would be 40 dollars.

The land would be maintained by community members and workers at Amazing Grains. The project has met opposition.

"This came forth with a recommendation from the committee to pass it but because someone objected they thought they'd give people another chance to speak on it. So we're hoping to have full approval tomorrow."

Opponents argue the gardens will be unsightly and attract homeless people. If approved, the gardens will be ready by June.
