(WDAY Sports) - One week after Saul Phillips lost a guard for next season, today he gained one back.

Over the weekend, Fieldcrest High senior Taylor Baxter verbally committed to NDSU and today he signed with the Bison.

Baxter, 6'5, averaged 16 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds a game for his team that went 29-1 this past season. He had interest from several different schools, but NDSU always stood out for him.

“Players made me feel welcome, the coaches made me feel welcome. It is D-1 basketball, can't beat that, it was just a perfect fit. They have a couple guards, which I know, even if one gets hurt or sick, they're going to need that backup guy. We've talked about red shirting, I don't know if he wants me to do that.”

“He's a classic late bloomer that got better as the season went along. A big guard with a lot of versatility, as the course of the season, he impressed us more and more and more.”

That leaves NDSU with one more scholarship to use for next season, Phillips told me this afternoon that they do intend on using it.
