ND congregation rebuilds after 2007 tornado

NORTHWOOD, N.D. (AP) — Members of a Northwood church are putting the finishing touches on their new building nearly three years after their old one was destroyed by a tornado.

The Ebenezer Free Lutheran Church congregation has been meeting in available spaces around town during construction of their $2.1 million building. They planned to gather Saturday afternoon to officially open the new church.

Construction crews and volunteers continue to work on the final details, and it could be weeks before everything is in place. Salvaged pews need to be modified to fit the new building.

The 2007 tornado killed one person, injured 18 others and destroyed much of the Grand Forks County town of about 950.
