Congressman Collin Peterson met with the Red River Watershed Management Board about water retention along the Red. Their goal is to have 50 to 60 different retention projects done in the next 10 to 12 years.

Peterson says combining these projects with the diversion should protect everyone along the river. He says the board can qualify for federal dollars to help pay for the projects.

Right now all of the watershed districts are finding ways to hold back 20 percent of the water their area feeds to the Red. The next step will be for the Management board to meet with North Dakota officials.
